Friday Specials

This is a well-loved DCS special! Each season (Fall, Winter, and Spring), parent volunteers will provide the opportunity for students to undertake an activity that is lead and supported by the parent community. Usually 4 concurrent tracks are offered each season, for 3 or 4 Fridays in the last part of the school day. Past offerings have included beading, running, coding, Cricut crafting, papier-mâché, polar bear science, and board games. Students hear a pitch for each track and rank their choices; each Friday Special track is assigned a mix of students from each class.

Learning Journeys

Another favorite at DCS is Learning Journeys -- usually field trips but sometimes an in-school learning activity. Each class attends several Learning Journeys during the school year, sometimes with one of the other classes. Past Learning Journeys have included visiting Oxbow Farm, Seattle Arts Museum, Olympic Sculpture Park, Seattle Children's Theatre, and Living Computers Museum and Lab.

After-school Enrichment

The after-school enrichment programs are provided by the Sandburg & DCS PTSA. To sign up for after-school enrichment programs, make sure to first create an account at their website. On creating an account, parents have the ability to sign up for after school enrichment classes when the classes are made available. Stay informed of PTSA offerings by receiving The Informer and joining the PTSA Facebook group.
